As the scrapbooking craze began my kids reaped the benefits. I couldn’t resist getting my photos into albums designed just for them. The cute papers, the neat embellishments, the design potential—it all fit beautifully with my love of art. It wasn’t long before I discovered that my love of scrapbooking was unique. I often got together with friends who would agonize over one page, get frustrated with how far behind they were, and give up saying, “I should just give you all my stuff and have you do my scrapbooks.” After years of listening to their frustrations I realized that there were many women out there who, like those friends, wanted the product but had neither the time nor the desire to put it together themselves…
and Emma Kate Creations was born.
Emma Kate Creations expanded when another hobby of mine brought inquiry from friends. When it was time to decorate my own kids’ rooms, I looked in stores, but simply couldn’t find the type of fun, unique, artwork that I wanted. With my love of art, I soon realized that I could produce exactly what I had in mind and for a much more reasonable cost! I began in 1999 with a mirror for my son and a few years later a mirror and bookshelf for my daughter. Again, friends began to comment on the pieces as they visited my home, and it wasn’t long before they began asking for my work as shower gifts. As the kids grew I found myself expanding to canvases and even wall lyrics that surrounded a child’s room. Friends told friends, and soon I was getting inquiries from others looking for that unique piece of art to tie a child’s room together. In June of 2005 my work was featured in the Greater Des Moines Home Show Expo where I designed a nursery that included canvases, a mirror, and wall lyrics. Once again, a hobby became business…
